Not much time in Amsterdam. We returned late Friday night and on Tuesday Chris was off to Maryland to start Christmas vacation and help his parents prepare to move (actually to get 40 years of his crap-ola out of their house!). Soon after he left, the heat and hot water went off in our Amsterdam apartment. Our landlords were in Thailand and their houseguests, although very nice, were about as familiar with what to do as Melanie was. After 2 days without heat and hot water we all finally figured out that the pilot light had gone out on the hot water heater. Press a button, and POOF - back on it goes! Just in time for Melanie to leave for Christmas vacation as well! At least we didn't have to worry about the pipes freezing!
