Ouidah (3 days)
The port was a safe harbor for over 300 years for the French, Danish, and the Portuguese. During the 17th c., this was the last destination for slaves before being shipped from the continent.
Voodoo Festival in January: Located in Ouidah (42km West of Cotonou). Voodoo
is an integral part of Benin-ese culture, practiced in various forms throughout the country—more of a cultural than religious practice. Highly visible in Benin, ceremonies are performed in the streets.
Travel: Bush taxis and buses occasional buses between the cities take about an hour

Musee d’historie d’Ouidah: Originally a Portuguese fort. The official museum for
history on the slave trade in Ouidah. 2 mile walking tour of The Slave Route (Route de Esclaves)- the trail that slaves were forced to endure before The New World.
Musee de Voodoo: Located in the center of town, will provide good background before attending the Voodoo festival.
Film Festival: held at the same time as the Voodoo festival
Accommodations: Oasis Hotel (located in the city center)
