Continued driving along the Great Ocean Road passing through the towns of Apollo Bay, Lorne and the surfers Mecca of Torquay. The road dissects the Otway forests and range as it briefly heads inland before meandering along the coastline once again. The road hugs the rocky cliffs which are constantly being battered by the mighty southern ocean. The road is a really impressive piece of engineering today nevermind when it was build in the 1920's by brute human force and ingenuity by world war one veterans. The road project was conceived to give the veterans work after the brutality of the "Great War".
Regrettably the Great Ocean road has now ended, just wish it was that little bit longer. Defiantly a must for anybody visiting this part of Australia, such an amazing and enjoyable drive with some awesome coastal landscapes.
Next stop Geelong, the city completely obsessed with AFL (Austrian Rules Football). Stayed in Geelong for a couple of hours and had a stroll along the pretty waterfront before heading to St Kilda in Melbourne to meet some friends. I'm staying with some guys I met in Saigon back in the summer for a few nights, really cool chaps.
Went to a house party this evening to celebrate a friend of theirs birthday in a swish apartment block in the city. Well and truly back to civilisation now. A wee bit strange being in the company of a dozen or so people after so much solitary time. Not as strange as expected though, haven't completely turned into a socially inept hermit just yet.
