Caught the train to central Perth this morning to pick up my hire car, another Toyota Corolla which I'm quite happy about to be honest. It's really fuel efficient and if I drive like a Granny it consumes less than 6 litres every 100km. Pretty comfortable and spacious too. Decided to take out extra insurance to waver the excess. If I hit a Kangaroo and wrote the car off, the excess would have cost me $5800 and now I pay nothing. This level of cover added over 50% to the overall cost of the hire. I thought it's wise to play it safe, you never know with the amount of miles I'm planning to cover.

After packing my gear and saying my goodbyes in The Vines, I drove 500km north this afternoon. I parked up 25km north of Geraldton after indulging in a dirty McDonalds, thought it would probably be my last opportunity to have some junk food for quite a while.
