Another long day, woke up at 5.45 and went down to central Nairobi for the coach to Moshi. Traveled through Masai territory and saw beautifully clothed Masai herding goats and cattle across the Kenyan plains. The guys are so tall and slender; I can now understand why some of the best long distance runners in the world are Kenyan. Tanzanian border was interesting, as soon as I stepped off the bus I was surrounded by the locals trying to sell me fake visas and old Masai women wrapping jewelry round my wrists. The situation got pretty intense when they found out they weren't getting anything out of me. Luckily the bus driver saw my predicament and drove along side me and the masses of locals and I jumped in the bus A-Team style.

Not long after entering Tanzania I caught my first glimpse of Kili, wow! It's just a massive lump in the middle of the African plains, the top half of the mountain was shrouded in cloud, but apparently you get a clear view in the early morning. Finally after eight hours of bumpy roads and ridiculous over taking maneuvers I finally got to the hotel in Moshi. Meet with most of guys who will be trekking, all seem really nice and I think we'll make a good team on the mountain. Tomorrow is the briefing day with the guides and porters, so the whole team will finally meet. Saw an American doctor flaked out in the hotel reception, he'd just summited but was in a bad way, he'd been very ill on the decent and said he'd never do it again, hardest thing he'd ever done. Hope I have a better experience!

Hi

Thanks for the pics, nice ones.

I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to buy gear in Moshi

Re: moshi
Hi,

I didn't personally buy any gear in Moshi, but it's available. Not sure what the quality and cost is though.

What shuttle did you take from Nairobi to Moshi? Was it easy to find?

So sorry, I can't remember the name of the bus company. A local bought me the ticket and the bus itself had no branding, it was a pretty standard semi-comfortable mini-bus caught from the downtown area.

Sorry i can't be a better help!
