The weekend was certainly welcome, but its arrival didn't mean I could relax. I woke up early today with the rest of the group and we walked to the entrance of the Grosses Festspielhaus for our very own tour of the main stages of the festival! Our tour guide, Simon, was very thoughtful and friendly; he took us backstage and we saw some set pieces from Don Carlo and Die Meistersinger. We all felt quite special as we stood on the first of the three stages and imagined performing up there.

When we were done there, I went to one of the local cafes with Dominick, Elena, and Steve. I didn't spend too much time there because, back at the dorm, I found Kate and Jen and decided to go back to the lakes!

Our group ended up being Courtney, Jen, Zack, Kate, Charlie, Michael and me. We took the local bus about half an hour east until we hit Fuschl am See, the lake closest to Salzburg.

Though it was somewhat cloudy and not as hot as we would have liked, we had an amazing time. First, we went to the chlorinated pool just to start, but it was rather chilly so we hopped into the lake instead, which was, for whatever reason, a far more comfortable temperature. It also helped that the sun was out at that point. We swam out to this floating wooden raft-type thing that had two diving boards attached and had fun diving and jumping for a bit.

I decided to go off on my own for a few minutes and swim farther to the middle of the lake. All by myself in the emerald water, all I could hear was the trickle of the water's movement and my own breathing. The mountains were all around me and there was absolutely not a wave that stirred the lake. It was heavenly.

We decided to take a break then and get some lunch. The chocolate soufflé they served was just amazing, and I think we were all sitting there in awe of how good it was for a good five minutes after eating it.

We all needed to digest after that and took a nap in the grassy field next to the lake. When we woke up, all cold because the sun was blocked by clouds, we decided it was time to head back to the city and took the bus once more. We parted ways when we got back to the city, grabbing Turkish Tombiks for dinner and eating at the dorm. After resting and showering, Courtney, Charlie, Kate and I left the dorm to join the partying downtown and had a very exciting night with some others from the program.
