we finished our 5 day safari to Lake Manyara, Serengeti and the Ngorongoro crater last night. It was awesome!! although we had no fun trying to set up the tour - no shortage of scammers here. anyhow we ended up with a private safari although there were supposed to be two aussie peeps with us, because the airline lost their luggage and they couldn't make it.

we saw all the animals (with the help of our guide) because they are pretty hard to see. the park is huge. chris thought at first that it would be jammed with animals but then the guide told us it was 14,000 square kms and so it would be impossible for it to be wall to wall animals. sometimes you would drive for like 45 minutes and not really see any animals and then our guide would spot two cheetahs or a leopard in a tree or something and then we would watch them for a while and see what they would do (sleeping, for the most part).

camping was pretty basic. some of the sites had armed rangers, some of them didn't. you can hear animal noises in the middle of the night, like theres no fence around the campsites so you're just out in the wild. chris got up to pee one night and saw zebras grazing by our tent. it was pretty cool.
