Yesterday I woke up refreshed and without any pain. Having slept early was definetely a good decision and the medicine worked too. I felt fit and it turned out to be an active day.
I wanted to take advantage that I stay so close to the skytrain and bought a 1 day pass, which allows you to drop at any station and take any line- well actually there is only 2:)
I already fell in love with this way of travelling in Bangkok since you escape the traffic jam, it's fast and cheap- at least for tourists.
I dropped at Chit Lom station and wanted to see Central World, one of SE-Asian biggest shopping malls. 6 months ago it had been burnt down by red shirt activists. I don't want to intefere in Thai politics but I can tell they did definetely a big economical harm to their country.
Central World is open again, or at least parts of it. It's still a huge construction site and they will need months, if not years to rebuild it. I wanted to take a picture the same place I saw that my favourite journalist Richard Barrow did after the burning and looting. But the Thais there wouldn't allow me to take a picture. They were firm but polite, indicating me the provisorious entrance.
I got in there. Lots of boutiques opened again and an exhibition too. I had a glimpse (I'm not a serious shopper), took a few pics and went out. Did the same at gayson shopping mall nearby. Walked along Sukhumvit road to the next station Siam. Walked into another huge shopping mall, Siam Paragon, more the luxury type, quite impressing.
But by now I had enough of these malls and decided to take the Silom line from Siam to Sathorn, the Central pier at the river Chayo Praya. I wanted to take a boat up the river to visit Wat Arun, the temple of dawn, one of the most beautiful ones in Bangkok. The Chayo Praya express, the public river boat is a very inexpensive way to travel Bangkok and quite fun too. I dropped at Tha Tien pier from where I crossed the river by ferry for another 3 Baht. Entrance fee for Wat Arun is 50 Baht but it is definetely worth it. Being fearless and a little bit stubborn I climbed all the way up Wat Arun, which is quite high and the narrow steps were quite a challenge for me being handicapped again. But as I said I'm stubborn and with a little help from two Germans I met there I did it.
The view from the top over Bangkok is breathtaking. On the other site of the river the Grand Palace could be seen clearly:)
Having taken lots of pics I went back the same way I came but I did a short stop at MBK- guess what- another huge shopping mall. I wanted to check prices for electronics, but they are just slightly cheaper than back home and you get only 1 year warranty here- not worth the discount.
I reached my hotel quite tired. I hardly had been that active in Bangkok but prefered to have a couple of beers in Soi Rambutrii near Khao San road doing nothing but getting drunk.
I called my Thai friends but unfortunately none of them was free that evening:(
Neither Nong Mam, nor Su, nor Tik. So I ended up having a few beersby myself...
Today I had an appointment with my new online friend Ping. Meeting someone in person for the first time is always exciting. She turned out to be a simple but awesome and cute woman. I enjoyed spending time with her. Her spoken English unfortunately was only half as good as her written but since my Thai has improved a lot in the past years that is not a barrier for me anymore!
We met at Mo Chit BTS station which is close to her home and easy for me to reach, just sit on a skytrain for 30 mins without having to change anything.
We went to Central Ladprao- yes it's a shopping mall- had lunch together and watched a movie. Afterwards we went to my room where she gave me nice foot and back massage. After we had dinner I accompanied her to the BTS station and she went back home. Thank you Ping for this nice day!
Tomorrow is my flight back home and allthough I definetely had  happier times here, time passed quickly again. Alltogether it had been a good time again, yet I am ready to go home!
