I can´t believe it is less than a week since I left NZ. I´ve packed so much into the first week it feels like I´ve been gone ages!

I had to survive on my non-existent spanish on the first day until Brooke my travelling buddy arrived from the states. I managed somehow, however when ordering food it was pretty much a ´suprise´ what I ended up getting. Since then I´ve learnt more... 12 weeks to go so I should be an expert by the end (here´s hoping!).

Brooke arrived at 2am, and they had lost her luggage - not a great way to start the trip. With a lot of phone calls to different places she was assured it would arrive the following day. We had a day exploring Lima, the morning on foot, then the afternoon we caught a bus into the central city and wandered around. The local buses were an experience in themselves. Lima has a huge contrast between rich and poor. Some areas are shacks, others are tall flashy appartment buildings. Cars drive around honking their horns constantly, and when you´re in the traffic queue people are selling the most bizzare things. I saw a guy selling blow up childrens swimming jackets at the same time as a net covering for food!

Since Lima we travelled down the coast and spent a night in Huacachina. Huacachina is a small town in the middle of the desert, there we went on a dune buggy ride and sand boarding. There were some pretty huge sand dunes to ride down.

Today we caught a bus to Nazca to do a flight over the Nazca lines. It was amazing. It is still a mystery how the drawings got there, they were spectacular from the sky. Some of them have been ruined by motorcycles riding on top of them, but most were still pretty good.

Now we have 7 hours to kill in Nazca before our overnight bus to Arequipa.

Well that does it for now, hope all is well!
