To get to Railay we had to go to Krabi first. We flew in late after traveling via Bangkok. We were going to spend a bit of time in Krabi but there literally is nothing there. We stayed in a lovely hostel called Pak Up which had a roof top bar which we took advantage of while listening to acoustic music! The next day we got a long tail boat over to Railay which was a lot of effort with our rucksacks, but we managed it. It took us about 30 mins to get there. On our way we saw a local relaxing on a sofa chair floating on the sea!!! Crazy thais!
Railay is really small it seems like an a island but it is just a small section of land that comes off Krabi island with water on either side! typical for us we booked somewhere right on the other side of the beach which wasnt too much of a walk but in the midday heat & with our bags it wasnt so nice. We got to our bungalows which were up some really steep steps!! This seemed to be a common thing with us! They also had no lift as the bungalows were on the rocks within trees! Our bungalow just had a fan but it was fab for the price even came with a mozzie net!
We found the beach after checking in & stayed till sunset. The beach was lovely really long, wide & it had a hotel & some bungaows overlooking it, but not over crowded. There was a few places to eat also. The sunset was lovely to watch so relaxing, we just had a relaxed evening after this as we had decided to go to a view point & lagoon which the bungalows owner had suggested. We found where you climb up & it was more like rock climbing so we turned back round & swapped our flip flops for trainers!! again it was about 30 degrees so we were sweating already. We had to pull ourselves up a steep hill with a clay surface & it looked like it was just one steep section, This was deceiving as it wasn't an it took about 25mins to get to the top!! We got to the view point which was lovely but I had a face on because I didn't think it was worth the climb we had just endured! We went on to find the lagoon which was so worth it but again was a good hike, up & down rocks. At the last point we bumped into a aussie guy who had lived there for years & was always climbing that route. He helped us climb down the last few sections these were 3 vertical 10m drops with only a piece of rope to help you down so without him it would have bin a struggle . We had to climb through a hole in the rock to get to the lagoon. There was only us &another couple who did it so we literally had the lagoon to ourselves! We felt like we were in a film it was beautiful an we didn't want to get out! It was so relaxing we could have stayed there all day.
The climb back up was a bit more dificult especially with us being soaking wet & sweating!! We had to use all our upper body strengh to climb back up which i was no good at & i had a bit of a panic! Once we got down it started raining so we had gone at the best time. We went out for the evening because it was haloween! We watched a amazing acoustic singer & saw our first fire show. We booked our ferry for the next day to Phi Phi which we were loking forward to as we had heard some good things about it!
