We cycled from Rijeka to Krk Island, about 60 kilometres. We felt quite guilty about using the bus and train, so being back on the bikes felt good.
The narrow road to Krk was a continuous stream of holiday makers with caravans heading to the Island, which made cycling a nightmare as the vehicles just missed us by inches.
Krk is connected to the mainland by the most amazing bridge. It has three huge arches, and rises up out of the dusty landscape, looking like a huge lego model.
Krk was fun ,we got to snorkel, and fight with van loads of Italians for a few dusty square inches to pitch our tent.
Cres Island was much better. Quieter, and clearer water. We met Toine and Lieka, two Dutch cyclists, who ferried over with us, and we tackled the 500 metre hills together into Cres town.
The Adriatic is sparkling and clear, and we were introduced to the Croatian campground "disko" nights that go on late into the night. It was mostly little kids bopping around, everyone else was too exhausted from the heat.
