I spent the weekend in Kenya in Mombasa, on the coast of the Indian Ocean. This means that by the end of this trip I will have been in the Mediterranean Sea, the Indian Ocean, and the Atlantic Ocean. And some swimming pools. Caroline, my friend from Ohio State, and I were accompanied by a mini UN-delegation of sorts: our group consisted of interns from the US, Canada, Kenya, Honduras, France, England, and Germany. We shared an apartment on the beach and enjoyed spending time on our balcony as well as in Mombasa's busy nightclubs, which were often filled with sex workers looking for European men. Throughout the weekend I enjoyed a variety of African foods, but my favourite was cassava root dipped in hot oil, then sliced in half and filled with chili spice. The weekend ended with a nine-hour bus ride to Nairobi. I watched "The Motorcycle Diaries" on my laptop. It was a great movie.
