After all of the excitement, we headed back into Page to catch a guided tour of the Antelope Canyons. These 500 yard long slot canyons just 3 miles east of Page had the potential to be one of the coolest sites on the trip. You walk through sand and around every corner the sun peeks through the tight gap at the top of the canyon 125 feet above. The sun makes the sandstone walls glow wonderful oranges, reds, and yellows. The problem with this place, is it should be seen with some sense of solitude. There had to be 500 people jammed into this small tight stretch of a slot. Taking pictures of the beautiful walls, or of a sunbeam dancing across the canyon floor was next to impossible with that many people around jockeying for position. The other problem is that once you have walked through you are forced to disturb all of the others coming through by walking briskly back through the canyon to your designated ride back into town. Bottom line is; wonderful place with tons of potential, but way too crowded. I would search out a slot that was less striking if it meant it was less crowded.
