The hour drive from Flagstaff put us at the Desert View entrance to the park. We nervously got out to get our first look at the canyon with which we would learn so much about over the next couple of days. The first view was absolutely breathtaking. Everyone said no picture will ever compare to actually looking over the edge of the rim, and I must agree. At Desert View, there is an old watch tower that you can go up into for a higher view of the canyon below. It also houses a gift shop for those who need their souvenir fix.
