Hey Guys,

I'm the sunny and beautiful Santorini, paying only 8 dollars for a dorm room and I just might never leave...Well unfortunately I will have to but its great just relaxing here on the beach. I spent over 72 hours traveling to get here...yes that's 72 HOURS. It was 3 different overnight ferries to get to Santorini in Greece, over 2500 kms on a boat, which is kind of crazy because as the bird flys its only 900 km from Dubrovnik to Athens..but that means going through Albania or Kosovo..not something I am willing to try..

I was telling people at the hostel how I was getting to Greece and 5 of the guys and girls at the Hostel decided to come along..Including the guys who were going to hitch through Albania...they decided that they like their bodies the way they were. So there were a few people that were going to share the journey with me. I only had 10 Kuna left about 2.50, and I need something for the journey..and I managed to find a bottle of the fowlest Croatian wine for exactly 10 Kuna...but it did the trick. With life in the cheap seats we don't have the luxury of a room, you just grab a piece of floor, hopefully with carpet. The first boat went from Dubrovnik to Bari in Italy, turned out there were 15 backpackers on the boat, so we all played cards and drank. Had a nice piece of carpet, right above the engine..unbeknown to me it was actually the most room I was going to get for the next 2 nights, we could actually move the tables around on this boat. Arrived in Bari in Italy; its a hole and doesn't deserve anything written about it, it was 7 hours and 55 minutes too long there. Luckily there was an even cheaper boat to Partas in Greece, which left earlier which was great because we hated Bari. There were 6 of us continuing onto Greece now, Paul and Dave, 2 of the British Hitchhikers..great lads..Griffin from Seattle in America..and Nick and Trisha from Adelaide. This boat was much nicer and really well fitted out, but being on the cheap seats they stuck us all in one room with airplane style chairs..and a solid wood floor. The seats were as close together as those on an Airplane...and the only place they would let us lie down was in between them...It was so bad every time you moved you whacked a piece of you body on a chair...But again the drinking did the trick..1 euro for a litre some horrible Italian beer..I had 2...but it made me sleep...

Finally arrived in Greece but we were still 4 hours away from Athens by Train. The train was a crazy, the driver was nuts..he kept beeping the horn for 2 hours..and the train was bouncing all over the place...thought i was on a comedy ride...and then we have Dave who hates trains and cant sit facing backwards...he stood up for the 2 hour ride and we all laughed while he went different shades of white...arrived in Kefolina and said goodbye to Nick and Trisha...and another 2 hours on a train to Athens.

Oh by the way, by this stage Dave was negative 32 pounds. Dave and Paul's aim was to hitchhike from London to Greece and get a job for the summer and hopefully with enough money to get home...Dave left with only 900 pounds and that managed to last him 2 and half months..but arriving in Athens he had absolutely no money...(Dave would have had more money had he not spent 300 pounds on his last night in London...what guys do for women)..We were all in a bit of a spot..sitting at a train station in Athens at 7 at night with no accommodation...But thinking there might be another overnight ferry somewhere we went strait to the port in Athens and there happened to be a boat to Santorini...Winner...we were off to Santorini the hard decision had been made for us..which Island...so at 7 the next morning we arrived in Santorini...there was Dave, Paul, Griffin and Me.

From there I am just going to make you all jealous...we arrived and a got a room with a mad Greek 8 euro a night...there were other people in the place who were paying 30...we were cheap..Dave had to borrow money for the room from Paul and hope he could get a job like now...he actually had 30 euro when he arrived on the island...but we were like..lets see the island..so we all hired scooters and quads for like 10 euro each and hooned around the island all day in the sunshine...it was great..you can get from one side of the island to the other, doing a circle in 30 minutes going a max of 50 km..It was funny at 1st because we were on the wrong side of the road but there is very little traffic...we had a great laugh. Found a dirt track to a beach and ended up racing around on it for an hour. So now Dave had 20 euro left and some of that needs to go for the room, we went out into our town of Perissa..50m walk..to a bar called the Half Moon bar..within 2 minutes of sitting there Dave had bought a jug of beer for 9.50, and then he had one on the house and then paid for another one. So now he only had 1 euro left and no job...luckily he was traveling with a few other people..it was a great laugh when he woke up in the morning only to realised what he had done...he can never refuse a drink...

Luckily Dave managed to find himself a job working as a barman right on the beach..in an awesome cocktail bar...He has the best job in the world...he gets paid 30 euro a night to sit wearing an England top and to drink...FREE...he will be doing actual bar work when it gets busy but the season has just started so now he just gets paid to drink..Lucky Bastard...although get free drinks as well...3 euro long island ice tea's with about 12 shots in it..Lethal..

So my days have been pretty much filled with sitting at the beach enjoying the sun all day and then out drinking at night...some time it starts earlier sometimes later...The hostel is filled with Aussies at one point there were 15 Aussies and 5 people from other countries..everyone loves the place..people who had planed to stay for 2 or 3 days have been here for 10 now...I am just going on a day by day basis...I get up in the morning..walk 50 meters and buy breakfast and the first bear..walk to the beach and sit myself down.

There is a weird thing about this hostel, in that they have the dumbest designed toilets in the world...there is about 5cm from the front of the toilet to the wall and you cant shut the door with you in the toilet unless you stand on the seat..and if you sit down you have to do it sideways...its a laugh when you are drinking...

A group of new people turned up and were hiring scooters and I was like yeah I'm in...Karin (from Perth), Justin (From Canada), Alistair (Melbourne Boy), Paul and Krista (Krista actually lives about 2 minutes from my house in Mt Eliza...Crazy small world). Had a great day again..finished with the sunset at Oia, supposed to be the 2nd best in the world but have no idea who made that up..but it was awesome...going home on the scooters was soooooo cold. I felt like I was in Dumb and Dumber...I couldn't feel my toes...

Next day this is pretty much what I did...didn't make it to the beach...got breakfast and at 11 had the first beer...sitting at the hostel with a bunch of people we got some music going...My exercise was walking to 50 m to get another beer at the local store they are only 80cents for half a litre...the big move of the day was when the sun was setting and we all sat across the road to keep in the sun...we were planning to go out but Justin passed out at 8...after 2 beers and 1 bottle of vodka..I made it another 2 hours after 6 beers (3 litres) and half a bottle of vodka, Alistair did the best of everyone making it another hour after me and having drunk 1 and a half bottles of vodka followed by 2 beers...The funny thing was that we couldn't eat because the restaurant across the road wouldn't let us in...so we just went strait back to drinking more...Great fun

Then had woken up at 330 for some reason, as I got out of bed I was surprised by Justin who had just woken up as well (he passed out at 8)..There is a 24 hour bakery just down the road.so we were off for food..as we stepped out the front of the room Dave, he had just finished work and was there with a random bloke from NZ so we all headed off to the Bakery. As soon a we got back to bed I couldn't sleep at all..so at 530 I got up and went watch the sunrise..it was well worth it.

I could stay here as I have been offered a job working in a bar...4 dollars and night accommodation and earning 30-40 euros a night...tempting...

Hope you are all jealous!!!

Suffer - I had a cushy ferry
Hello buddy,

Just wanted to tell you that my ferry to Athens had the plushest carpet ever and I had a very good sleep - 10 hours or so. The ferry to Paros we managed to get a couch so once again I slept brilliantly! (Sorry to rub it in!)

I am in Paros (as mentioned above!) Will be coming to Santorini in 2 nights or so. We are at a really nice place at the moment.

Sounds like your having fun.

Love Ami
