Tennants Creek, Australia. The glorious junction between the north-south bus route and the east-west bus route on Greyhound. Due to careful planning and customer care, the norherly bus gets into the bustling hamlet of Tennants Creek at the 24hr BP station at a somewhat unsociable 02.10. Those who wish to get the connection to the East Coast (like me) then get to spend the day in Tennants Creek until the bus east leaves at 22.00.

This has to be a cunning plan by Tennants Creek tourist bureau to trap people there and make them enjoy the town. I can personally recommend the floor space in the empty building within the 24hr BP, just sweep a space slear of dust and settle down. The lovely ladies in the BP provided me with tea and sandwiches at 6am and then I set off to explore the town.

Tennants Creek has a gold mine centre and an aboriginal centre and some pubs and not much else. I always wondered how much time I could spent at a gold mine and luckily I now know. Its about 5 hours before you start to go mad (this included several hours of fruitless gold panning).

This glorious day is then followed by a very long bus journey to the coast. Not fun.
