Woke up at 6 am and went for breakfast in the lobby at 7 am. Lots of businessmen were already waiting for the buffet breakfast to be ready - rice cakes, pickled vegetables and miso soup. It was more sumptious than I had imagined it to be. Ate our fill, checked out and took a slow stroll to the train station. Along the way, we saw some trees rich with yellow coloured leaves. It was very beautiful indeed. At least we still managed to catch some autumn colours. The streets were also full of the fallen yellow leaves - a very beautiful sight indeed.
We put our luggage in the locker before catching the 8.21 am Senseki line to Matsushima. Reached Matsushima at 9.01 am. Though Japan was so advanced, it somehow lack facilities for the aged. There was an old lady who was struggling to climb down the stairs of the station. It really was very difficult for her. Boon Chwee graciously and generously offered to carry her down the stairs - Korean style. He must have learnt it from watching all the Korean dramas!
We walked along the coast, admiring the many little islets and the beautiful scenery. Matsushima was rated one of the top three sights in Japan. Having read so much about it, we decided to see it for ourselves. Saw Godaido Temple, took a few shots there and continued to walk along Matsushima Bay towards the Oyster direct shop of Matsushima's Fisher's Union. Bought 500g of fresh oysters for 1200 Yen to eat later. It was indeed a good bargain.
Saw the Belgium Orgel Museum and headed to Matsushima Fish Market to get scallops (3 for 350 Yen) and an oyster burger (supposedly only available here at 350 Yen). While heading back to the station, I bought my Kokeshi doll for 800 Yen.
Rushed back to Matsushima Kaigan station to catch the 11.04 am train back to Sendai. Arrived at 11.40 am and went to reserve our tickets to Hakodate. Retrieved our luggage from the locker and went to board the 12.38 pm train to Hachinohe (arrived at 2.04 pm) and then the 2.14 pm connecting train to Hakodate (arriving at 5.33 pm). Boon Chwee said that there was snow forecasted in Hakodate, so we are all hoping to catch some snow later. Feasted on the oysters and the sashimi/sushi on the train ride to Hachinohe. It was very fresh and very delicious.
