Today is Mission:Delicious Brisket. I have heard many many many times that Franklin BBQ is the place to go for Q in Austin. We have also read that the wait can be over an hour and that does not even guarantee that you will be eating any of their fine food. With it still being mighty chilly outside we decided to go to the 2nd highest rated BBQ the food truck called La Barbecue.

We walked down through a few dicey looking streets but eventually came to the home of my new meat mecca. We were soon at the front of the line and were immediately handed a small sample of tender/buttery/fatty in a good way/deliciousness. We debated sandwiches/ribs/sausages but ended up ordering a heaping pound of hot brisket some jalapenos and two sides (the sides were totally unnecessary...I have learned my lesson)

There was a curious keg of free beer for the taking but we stuck to our sodas. The brisket was so good that I am somewhat afraid to every try any more should it fall short of this out of body eating experience. We polished off our food, took a peek inside the smokers and headed out.

Just for kicks we walked by Franklin's which is more of a real building to see what the line was looking like. It looked like there were 25 or so people lined up outside and curled around the building and who knows how many inside. I suppose this was not a crazy amount but we still agreed we had made the right choice and preferred our outdoor eating atmosphere.

And then yes...we really did take a nap.

At night is was time for Austin's answer to San Francisco's Beach Blanket Babylon (but without the drag queens and massively heavy hats). It was a very fun show with singing/magic/bad jokes. It turns out the cheap seats are the first 4 rows, so you have to pay more if you don't want to fall prey to becoming an audience participant. Chris was the lucky winner getting pulled on stage not once but twice. A magic trick first and then for the finale. If you are one of the truly lucky ones I will let you see this video.

On the way back we experienced some of the college craziness on 6th at a place that had 3 floors and a band on each floor. We certainly did not see all of what Austin had to offer but it was a pretty fun time.
