Nov 25 - Dec 1

Monday:
Went to the gym and later watched the Dr. Who 50th Anniversary movie, "The Day of the Dr." starring John Hurt, David Tennant and Matt Smith -well done.

Tuesday:
To the Gym again and then a trip to Narrow Street to have a pub lunch at Ian McCellan's place called The Grapes that we had been to before with Alan & Linda a few years back. To burn off our fish n' chips etc. we walked to London Bridge Station via Tower Bridge. Chris and I parted ways here as I went to go meet Eliza to go to the Isabella Blow fashion exhibition at Somerset House. The exhibit was very cool and Eliza and I finished off the night with some sushi at the Westfield in Shepard's bush and brought home a ridiculous number of Ben's Chocolate chip cookies. Yum.

Wednesday:
Today we were very excited as Andrew and Jenny gifted us with a pair of tickets to see the musical The Book of Mormon. The show was very well done and had fantastic singers, but it was not as hilarious as we had imagined it would be. It definitely had some funny parts but I guess we had expected more than that. (Tons of other people seem to love it...so maybe Chris and I are just mental) We finished off the night at the Shakespeare's Head pub near Holborn and back on the train.

Earlier in the day we met up with Grace, Henry & Annabelle and caught the Wildlife Photography of the year exhibition at the Natural history museum. There were a few grumbles from the kids who then later bought about 10 postcards each (so secretly they had really enjoyed it) :)

Thanksgiving:
Had a very delicious and relaxed turkey day at Grace & Jim's. Claude the dog has had all his shots and is allowed to hit the pavement on his first official walks. Claude's walks were more like "drags" at this point but I'm sure he'll get more into it in a few weeks. I had been fighting some sniffles all week but by the end of the day I was starting to feel pretty rough...now off home to curl up and digest all that stuffing.

Friday: Feeling terrible, stayed in bed all day long. Feeling slightly revived later in the day we showered up and headed out to meet Louise & Marc. We were booked up for a Jack the Ripper tour that evening and I figured I could survive an hour or so tour. Turns out is was going to be a 2.5 hour adventure....eeek. The guide was definitely knowledgeable but it was more of a History of London tour than a strictly Ripper tour. It was absolutely freezing - we made it through about 1.5 hours of the tour before gracefully handing back our booklets to the guide and seeking shelter in a nice warm pub. Will have to try one of these tours again...but maybe in the summer next time. Had some Pizza Express for dinner and headed home to curl up again.

Saturday: I was meant to go to the Westham game with Chris (with Steve & Brian here on vacation) but I was still not feeling great. Alan went along with them making it a proper boys day out. The Hammers won and Steve and Brian got to experience thousands of grown men singing "I'm forever blowing bubbles" ....so manly. Chris came back to nurse me back to health with an Indian takeaway from the Bhaji down the road. yum yum.

Sunday: Chris is not feeling great either so he joins my daytime hibernation club. We are resting up again as we are joining Andrew & Jenny on a festive visit to Kew Gardens. The Barnes treated us to a nice Mediterranean meal at the old Firehouse across from Chris' parents place and we then headed west to Kew. For the first time Kew gardens has lit up certain parts of the gardens for a Chrismassy night time tour. It was all very pretty and it was nice to catch up with Jenny & Andrew. The little village near the station was very nice as well, we'll have to go back in the future to see the whole place in the light of day. :)
