Our second weekend in England was spent with our old camping comrades Marc and Louise Sach, who we spent three wonderful weeks with in The Great Smokey's, Nashville, Panama City, Savannah, Charleston and finally the Outer Banks.

It was during those long hot camping nights hat we would talk about our favorite English foods, and thus we came up with a plan for the ultimate weekend in England which would include all three of the main English food groups Indian, Sunday Roast and Chinese. This weekend we would be putting that well devised plan into action.

The Sach's live about 20 miles outside London in a place called Stanford Rivers,so we arranged to meet them in "The Bull" (a pub in Theydon Bois). Theydon Bois is right at the east end of the Central line on the London underground for all you tube lovers out there. Don't say i never give my readers some interesting facts.

The plan was to sink a few beers in the bull and then head off to the Sachs favorite Indian restaurant. We would then be spending the night at the Sach's luxury barn before tackling the mammoth task of  Sunday Roast and Chinese the following day.

The first part of our plan went without fault, although in hindsight we probably should have stopped drinking at the bull sooner as my memory of the Indian is limited although Leslie assures me that it was top notch. Myself and Marc continued the party throughout the meal and even managed to sneak in a couple of more beers in at the Woodman pub on the way home. Back at the barn Marc was defeated as he quickly passed out on the floor with beer in hand. We now got a chance to catch up with Bruno the dog. He had not been feeling well recently and was recovering from an operation to remove a tumor from his spleen. Even though he was not quite at his usual full speed i think he enjoyed the extra strokes and cuddles from his new house mates for the night.

Sunday - I felt terrible this morning as i woke up to the sound of the Sach's watching the Hollyoaks omnibus downstairs. They had very kindly let us have a sleep in, but it was now time for round two. First order of business was to collect some eggs from the chickens. Yes that's right the Sach's have chickens. They really make their guests work for there keep :)

The chickens seem to be giving me the evil eye so i sent Les in to steal there eggs. Leslie even got to hold one but i seem to have a new found phobia of chickens so i was not in the mood to touch one. Louise tried to cure me by throwing a chicken in my face, this did now work.

Right off to the pub for some Sunday roast action. We were booked in to the Black Bull (Yes they like to have the word Bull in pub names in these parts!), but on arrival we discovered that they were not showing the Tottenham football match. Marc was not impressed so we cancelled our booking and moved on to another of the Sach's favourite pubs "The Cock Inn" which amazingly had delicious bbq food.

So the weekend ended up being great fun, but we had only manged to sample one of our three planned food groups. Plenty more days on this trip to put that right :)

Now the sad news. Unfortunately Bruno passed away a week after our visit. We are grateful that we got to say our goodbye's this weekend, visiting the barn will not be the same again. Rest In Peace old boy, I hope your chasing those chickens where ever you are.
