With just two weeks until we need to be in Miami we decided to have one last foray up north before starting the long slog south to catch our flight to Aruba. The original plan was to check out Cape Cod (Aka "The Cape"), but after Kelly (our awesome hostess for the last two days) recommending that we should checkout Rockport and Gloucester instead. Her reasoning being that we had already been to Nantucket which pretty much sums up the cape. Stephanie who we met yesterday had also confirmed Kelly's recommendation, so who are we to disobey two locals.

So we set out this morning north to Rockport and Gloucester. These are both fishing communities northeast of Boston. We actually ended up leaving a little later than planned, but since our drive today is under an hour we figured we would enjoy Brutus's company for just a little longer. Arrived at the campsite we had planned on staying in for the next two nights before quickly turning around and leaving again due to the cold weather. (and creepy guy on golf cart) See we almost camped! Looks like a few more nights in a hotel for the Marshmeiers. Yay!

With the budget being completely thrown out the window of late, it was time for me to start some hardcore hotel bargaining. I was going to find a cheap hotel come hell or high water. Over lunch me and Les took turns at phoning up hotels and B&B's in the area to try and convince them to give us a cheap room. So far we were having no luck, it seems they would rather keep their rooms empty than give us $50 off. Feeling frustrated I decided to try a new tact. I was going to go for the sympathy vote rather than matter of fact British bloke which had not worked so far. I phoned the "Bearskin Neck Motor Lodge" which was the number 1 hotel in Rockport according to Tripadvisor. Crystal answered the phone, this was a good sign, as i find women respond to my broken British bloke act. I asked if she had a room available for the night. She confirmed they had a king room and the rate would be $209. "O" i said, "That's way outside our budget range I'm afraid, thank you for your time". This line was delivered in my most defeated\polite voice i could muster (Recall Oliver twist asking "But please sir, can I have some more"). Crystal asked me what i could afford. I said $100. She said she could give us the room for $160. We have movement people, now we are negotiating. I told her that i really appreciated her dropping the price, but i really could not afford to go that high, which was a shame because her hotel looked amazing and i would have loved the opportunity to stay there. Crystal asked if i could afford $130, and that she really could not go any lower. Cha Ching, I had just got $79 off. Happy with my bargaining skills i accepted her price and we headed to our hotel for the next two nights. Ok $130 is more than we should be spending on a hotel, but at this point, with our budget being blown so far out of the water, i figured what the hell. I'm just going to not look at the bank balance any longer and see what happens.

Our room was  pretty sweet, with an incredible view of the ocean. Spent the rest of the day walking around Rockport. Dinner consisted of peanut butter sandwiches, in a sad attempt to reclaim some of the money spent on hotels. (But we did enjoy a nice lunch at Latitude 43 earlier in the day - Fish Burrito & Fish Sandwich..yum)
