As everyone we met from Oregon to Ohio told us to NOT stay in Detroit we made the hour long journey from our campsite in Perrysburg, OH to Comerica Park. With the car freshly serviced we arrived in Motor City to hopefully see the A's sweep the Tigers.

We parked in a relatively safe looking underground lot, hopped out of the car and to our delight noticed that plastic protective undercarriage thingy (my technical term for it) under the front of the car was hanging off and nearly touching the ground on one side. Fabulous!!!

Chris and I proceeded to take turns lying on the disgusting parking lot ground rubbing our A's tops in black grime trying to see where the screws were (or weren't). Chris wanted to just remove the whole thing but I ended up being able to kind of shove it in so it was at least secure temporarily

Since everyone had already done their best to completely freak me out about Detroit this was not a good start to our outing.

I had bravely worn a nice obvious green A's shirt for which I soon got a massively loud "OHHHH NOOO Ohhhh NOOOO....we won't even talk about what happened last night" from a local hanging out on the street on the way to the stadium. The A's had butchered the Tigers 14-4 the night before. We figured this was our cue to get inside quickly.

Inside was pretty nice, the kids seemed to be treated the best there with the Tiger carousel and I think there was even a Ferris wheel. We had read the Chicago Dogs were about the best thing to eat there (as the 'signature' food was Little Caesars Pizza ...no thank you) and they were not bad...pretty authentic topping-wise.

As this might be our only time seeing our home team we treated ourselves to some pretty good seats near the A's dugout. It was again way too hot for me but I did pretty well lasting in our seats sweating the day away.

It looked like we were going to make the sweep but sadly in the bottom of the 9th with a home run and a few other things the Tigers took it back...which was a sad sad ending for us...but what can you do

So I know the A's stadium is likely the worst in the MLB but I have to say the Tigers Stadium did not excite me too much. They did have some intimidating Tiger statues but it lacked that certain something that most of the other Parks have had. Perhaps it was because most of the ticket takers and concessions people seemed absolutely miserable or maybe it was due to the worry in the back of our heads that our car was going to come completely apart on the drive back afterwards.

In the end we were glad to see our A's and to know that they had at least won 3 of the 4 games in Detroit. Oh and the traffic to get out of there was completely INSANE!!!

On the way back we treated ourselves to our second visit to Chili's in two days to drown our baseball/car sorrows.

My apologies Detroit but we shall not be returning for a visit anytime soon.

for the record: Section 119, Row 3, seats 5&6 (we've had 5&6 a lot...creepy)
A's lost 6-7
