The drive to Sproat Lake was beautiful.  A lot of water and green scenery, it felt alot like being out in the country at home.

We arrived mid afternoon to find we were staying in a beautiful spot on Sproat Lake.   The girls immediately took to the water and enjoyed playing in the peddle boat off the dock, though the water was very cool and the weather still very overcast.

We had a lot of fun this first night with a weiner roast and marshmallow roast on the beach, (our technique was faultless, Kurt in Portland would have been proud!)  We all went to bed in our own rooms in cosy beds and slept in in the morning, something that we made a habit of during this week.

There had been a bear about shortly before our arrival and Chris's child hood experience with the Grizzly Movie meant that he put his morning runs on hold and spent some time locking doors and closing windows at night.  Hollywood has a lot to answer for!

We had every intention of going and visiting all of the recommended tourist sights and beautiful things on this island, but we found that we were in such a magical spot on the lake it was hard to justify leaving for long.  We made short trips to Port Alberni  for supplies and to wander through the shops.  A lot of the time we spent on the lake, Chris got the Zodiac out there and towed the kids up and down in inflatable rings.  We played the game of Life on the dock and sat out there drinking hot chocolates.

The water was cool and clear and the girls enjoyed swimming off the dock.  The view in the mornings was spectacular and in the evenings also.   We bought a baseball bat in town and added to the earlier purchased baseball gloves we spent some time getting to grips with this game and various local parks.  We felt like we were seriously on holiday now.  What a great place to spend a holiday!  One day we will have to come back and see all the sights that were so highly recommended, right now we appreciated having a chance to relax and hang out in a magical spot!   On to Whistler...

Samantha -  We're by this lake it is really cold like 15 degrees and we went swimming and it was sooooo fun i dived off the diving board and we also went sorta being towed in a ring it was good fun i was sooooo excited i was really tired i slept like a log they have this cool paddle boat and that was really fun
Goodbye rugby hello baseball though we have not learnt all the rules it is still fun
more later
Sammy

Cassie - I got to go into the lake and swim it was like less than 15 degrees and i was only wearing a t-shirt and knickers. the lake is completely see through if you dived and had someone else watching they could see your face and the expression on it. the house is amazing they said it was a normal cabin but by cabins that we've had it is so great.
