A nice relatively short drive to the canyon.  We arrived about midday and got out ot the car to biting cold (what a shock)  Mirka gave us a heads up that there were some fire problems near the rim and the access road may be closed, but we did some googling and phoning on the road (how we love technology) and we found the problem had settled down.  We ate a picnic in the van (too cold to get out) and then raced into the Imax theatre to see the movie of the Grand Canyon.  It was a great introduction.

We then headed into the park for our first view of the Canyon.  I was uncertain if it would be all it was cracked up to be, but I wasn't disappointed, very very hard to discribe.  But for sure, I plan to come back here as a day and night don't do it justice.

We then headed to our hotel, checked in and had a swim in a very heated pool and a bit of down time before heading out to see the canyon in the evening light.  What fun, we practised our base jumping shots and enjoyed the incredible views. Somehow I can't imagine ever getting too much of that.   On the way back to the car we had some deer cross our path.  What a thrill, finally some real wild life and so close up.

We had dinner at the hotel and saw a show with native american dancing.  The next morning we headed off to Monument Valley stopping on the way out for some different views of the canyon.  This definitely deserves a longer visit.  Zack spotted another group of deer as we were leaving the park.
