That night in Joplin we were kicked out of the park by a police officer, he said that we couldn't camp in any of the parks. This was a surprise since Kansas let's you camp in any of the parks no problem! We were very fortunate to find an available room after calling 10 different hotels. We got a room only because someone had canceled that nights reservation. All the rooms were occupied by families without homes and the relief workers cleaning up the mess. Check out was at noon so we got a late start the next day.
Rolling into town was not an easy task. The 3 H's as I call it are killing us...Hills, Heat, Humidity. After the local sheriff told us we couldn't camp anywhere in lockwood we were feeling down on our luck. So long story short we were directed to a water hose to shower up for the night. On the way there, we rolled by a car show. We slowed down to enjoy all the nicely kept old schools, when we hear a lady call out "where you coming from?" So we told her our story and she invited us stay at her house. By the way, she was sitting by her and her husbands 455 trans am. We stayed up trading stories back and forth. Dee and John, and I know we say this a lot but its been true every time, are the most genuine couple. Dee and John are the definition of southern hospitality, we felt right at home. We can't wait to come back for Dee's famous cashew chicken and day of cookie cutter making( she had a collection well over 700).
