We arrived by way of an ascending spiral of a road which crossed the Sierra Nevada mountains and Carson city, the capital of Nevada.  A beautiful drive it is too.  And suddenly you see the Lake nestled in the bowl of the Nevadas snuggled in on all sides by the white blouses and dark skirts of the mountains.

And so it was that the four travellers came upon the beauty of Lake Tahoe to end their time together and their various adventures in the USA.   And a very fitting place to say goodbye it is.  A place that leaves a lasting impression.  We took a gondola ride, followed by a chair lift, up mount rose and looked down upon the serene Lake Tahoe, totally encased by mountains.  From the village called Heavenly, which is such a fantastic name for a place!  And heavenly it was up there gazing upon one of the jewels in the crown of California.  We had a bit of the obligatory hike up the mountain and looked over some of the ski runs in Heavenly, no snow and with the sun shining, it was still cold at 10,000 feet

There were Canada geese just lazing around on on the beach outside our hotel balcony, which sounds great but geese leave poo ...... And picking your way through the sandy mounds of poo wasn't all that great.  Once again, the west coast provided us with some beautiful sunsets and I hope you're not getting bored with my sunset pictures .... They are the ultimate romantic freebie!  I loved all the silhouettes of the tall pine and spruce trees against the full moon when the scent from the trees filled the air.

And we saw our first bear! From a distance, driving round the wooded residential area at dusk there was a black shape crossing the road downhill, the unmistakeable lope of a black bear!  We went on some more bear hunts at dusk for a few days but never saw another one.

We'd noticed quite a few classic cars driving around and on our last day they all congregated in the Heavenly mall and we were treated to an unexpected classic car show, bonnets up, all gleaming and polished like they'd never ever been driven!

We were sad to leave Tahoe but had the wonder of Yellowstone still to look forward to, cameras at the ready for Old Faithful, the geysers and hot springs this park is famous for and, never having seen a geyser in my life, I was intrigued.  The reality of Yellowstone was much more delightful than I imagined ....

Ps.  I forgot to say in the last blog ...... on the drive to Lake Tahoe, just outside of Mammoth Lakes, there was a sign for Mono Lake so we turned off the road to see what we could see, and LOOK what we saw!  A salt lake .... Limestone hoodoos! The "beach" was pure salt!  Fascinating
