One of the more mundane things I noticed as we were driving through this huge, beautiful and diverse state is the amount of burst car tyres on the roads!  The heat from the Tarmac is serious enough to rupture rubber on a very regular basis and judging by the debris left behind, blowouts are a common occurrence.  The traffic is a lot more intense here too and all the cities we visited in California involved sitting in traffic.   The other thing in California  is the blue trees. Jacaranda I believe, and sooooo pretty.

Once in LA, we paid for a tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills, taking in the houses, gardens and, in some cases, only the boundary hedges(!) of celebs such as Jennifer Aniston, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Katy Perry, Peter Falks, some in the $30-40 million price range.  Ferraris, Lambos and Rollers litter Rodeo Drive like sweet wrappers and one's level of success is measured by which road your house is on.  Hancock Park is a very plush area by anyone's standards, but apparently if you live there you have fallen from grace in the Hollywood league tables. Still, a property there will set you back several million.

While we were in Los Angeles we got tickets to see a band called The Boxer Rebellion who put on an amazing gig which left us with a big smile on our faces.  The singer, Nathan Nicholson,  has a great vocal range which is every bit as good live as in the studio.  Think they're actually about to tour the UK  too ......
One funny moment was when Nathan was "filling in" while  a roadie was sorting out a mic or something.  he said "we fly by the seat of our pants sometimes..." and a girl in the audience immediately shouted " you can fly by the seat of MY pants any time" ....
We thought we had been quite clever by parking on the street about a mile away from the venue, thus saving ourselves a few bucks on parking charges.  What we forgot is that you are ID'd for everything here and when we eventually arrived to pick up our tickets, they wouldn't release them without ID.   and guess where the ID was mmm hmmmm a long walk away.  Poor Kevin ....

The next day we met up once again with Alana and Jamie, newly engaged, as Jamie had proposed to Alana while they were in Vegas, a very romantic proposal it was too by all accounts. After all my bad words about Vegas, something good did come out of it after all!   So I am not to say anything horrid about LV again, sorry Alana.

So nice to be reunited again and to catch up with our different travel stories!   To kind of celebrate and just because its there and you can't not, we went to Universal Studios, and spent a day of fun together, surviving floods, a plane crash,  Bates motel, dinosaurs and roller coasters galore!

Two things Chris.
1. Bring me back a Veyron.
2. Stop shouting at singers.
You really should know better!

If you can't get hold of the Veyron a blue tree will do.......How cool are they!
