Saturday 14th Alessandria to Gap, France 320K
The rain came back today with a vengeance. We had torrential rain for our run through the Southern Alps which was a great shame as the scenery was fantastic, when we could see it. It was also a Bank Holiday in France so traffic was horrendous. After several hours of miserable driving we found a small Hotel in Gap and took refuge for two days, hopefully until the bank holiday is over
Sunday 15th
What a difference a day makes. Today we have bright sunshine and almost clear roads. As we were booked in for two nights at the hotel, we retraced our journey of yesterday to see the lovely Lake Serre Poncon. This is actually a huge reservoir formed about 50 years ago to relieve flooding in the valley. It is a huge holiday resort with numerous water related activities. Walking and cycling is also popular, all of which probably explains the horrendous traffic from Yesterday
