There we were in Detroit heading for Chicago, Mount Rushmore and Sturgees when we stopped to look at the map and saw how near we were to Toronto and thought that perhaps we could get rid of the car, book a flight and nip back to England to see the children.  (Call it home sickness - driving fatigue or living in the zone where everything looks the same-  all of these maybe)

We decided to leave America,  enter Canada again and head for Toronto.

Detroit is really a pass through city, it is near the Lakes and it has a history relating to the war both the Civil war and the 1812 war.  We know this because we went to see where General Custer lived and called into a history museum, where we met the historian who had not seen a lliving sole for 300 years and gave us the full tour, talk and history lesson.  It was very informative and we were surprised to find out that the English were involved fighting with the Canadians against the Americans and the French.  Apparently it ended in a draw.

We can relate facts if you want!!!

It was sad leaving America, there were so many places we wanted to see and didn't get to and so many places we did see and were a little disappointed but we can come back another day at another time and on the whole, it is a great country, and we met some really nice people, we saw no violence nor at anytime felt threatened (accept in Portland, where we felt uneasy).  We would give it a really good 7 and we will definately go back.

We are not so keen on this side of Canada having been to the other side now.   It has Niagra Falls, which we didn't visit as we have been quite a few times already.  There is Quebec and Montreal but if you are thinking of visiting Canada then it has to be the West we give it a really good 7 and we would visit again.  the people are friendly, it's very laid back and the scenery is breath taking.

So the cure for home-sickness, driving fatigue and poor sight is to book a flight to Mexico for 3 weeks, to move on to Cuba for 3 weeks then on to Hawaii for a few days, call in on Fiji for 5 days and have a rest in New Zealand to re-plan 'what next'... this is what we have done, so we shall keep you informed if this medicine works!!!

Getting rid of the car can be a problem, you can take it to a dealer and see if they will give you anything for it, you can scrap it for a few dollars, selling needs more time and a contact telephone number, you can buy disposable mobile phones and put an advert in the local paper and in the car.  We have relatives in the Toronto area so we have left the car with them.

We are having an almost unreal experience!  See you soon xxxxxxxxxxx
