As we couldn't get tickets for the night train, we stayed at a 3 star hotel right over the road from the train and bus stations so we would only have a short walk to catch our bus the next morning. After the heat and mosquito bites of Sofia the first time and in Veliko Tarnovo, the air conditioning, comfortable bed, bath and satellite TV were a real enforced luxury!
