Thinking this would just be a quick stop on our way to Spain, we arrived at 22:08, and reservations closed at 22:00.  So, cheapasses that we are, we decided to forgo a hotel and remain awake for yet another full night and explore the city.  We checked our monstrocities we call luggage in the train station, and ventured (with our mase and sleeping bags, just in case) toward Monmarte, climbed up the plethora of stairs, seriously, out of breath and sweating by the time we got to the top.  We sat on the hill in front of the church, with a breathtaking view of the city. Not long after we had arrived, a couple of guys from Morocco and Egypt came up to bother us yet again, but they were entertaining to say the least.  They also served as nice tour guides of the city, showing us the Moulin Rouge, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and of course, the discotech.  That occupied our time for about, 4 hours.  The guys didnŽt want us to stay in the park near the Eiffel Tower alone, since it was very dangerous, so they accompanied us via bus to the train station and went on their way.  By then it was around 4 in the morning, so we went into a little cafe and had 7 dollar espressos, and delicious Jambon e fromage omeletes.  Yum.
The long awaited reservations desk was about to open, so we went to stand in line.  Apparently parisians have aboslutely no understanding of what a line means, because cutting is a common occurence, and we are not fans of cutters.  After we finally got to the front we were informed, to our utter disappointment, that we would not be able to get a train to San Sebastian until the following morning.  First breakdown of the trip so far, we immediately started crying. CRYING.  Exhaustion had taken its toll, but we stuck our chins high and found a hotel on Blvd de Port Royal, and ended up having a really nice evening in Paris, after our 5 hour nap, of course.   WeŽll return to Paris in a few weeks, for more than 36 hours we hope, and know that it will exceed this experience immensly.
