After the long drive southeast, we headed a bit further south than our final stop of Los Angeles, we made our way almost to the Mexican border, our destination was San Diego.

San Diego was bustling with as many Latin Americans as we had seen south of the Panama Canal, but this time they were wearing cheap American gear, baseball caps and eating burgers for breakfast!

Checking into our hotel we chilled out after our long drive. Television here has been pretty awful with adverts driving us mad and sit coms so unfunny I wanted to bring back the Hi-De-Hi team for another go!

Still, thank god for the Golden Girls, no I am not talking about a selection of my ex-girlfriends, but the 80's American sit com based in sunny Miami. It was these four funny old birds that kept us going with re-runs that proved a better watch than the crappy detective shows that dog the main US TV stations.

Actually it was the Girls and Lynsey's favourite medical drama House (with Hugh Laurie sporting a fantastic American accent!) that meant we didn't go mad in a country, where on TV they treat you like a simpleton whilst trying to sell you a new exclusive cookery gadget that either purifies your food every time or toasts it into the facial shape of former president Richard Nixon!!

A mad, mad country for any visiting boy and girl or should I say dude and mam.

Oh yes... San Diego... well its a nice enough place, a pleasant city center, Little Italy and impressive Waterfront.

We took in the place and kicked back with some of the locals, drank coffee and generally took things easy... well after all, we have Australians to deal with next and not to mention Lynsey's friend Katie Green who, for those that don't know her, is generally a tough talking feisty teacher type, well at least until she has had her first glass of wine that is!!

Before you say it, I know I am not talking too much about San Diego, but suffice to say that we liked the place, its really a typical American city and the gateway to Mexico, which sadly we didn't have the time to visit. San Diego was probably just a bit too city-like for us and since we had been enjoying the drive through some very beautiful, isolated terrain, we were probably just a bit sorry to be back in the insanity of city life again.

As normal we took to the road and headed to our next destination, in fact our final destination in North America, finally we were going to see the city that Americans either love or hate... Los Angeles. So watch out Hollywood, Beverley Hills and Venice/Santa Monica Beaches, the dirty, badly dressed Brits are coming and we are leaving America in as much style as we can afford! (Yes Lynsey, its ANYTHING on the Happy Meal menu... your choice sweetheart!!)
