Granada is a 16th century colonial town with palm covered plazas, colourfull buildings (usually yellow) and horse draw carriages.  It's also really hot so the plazas tended to be full of locals hiding from the sun.

A few of us hired a boat and went for a trip on Lake Nicaragua to Las Islestas.  These are a bunch of 365 small islands created 10,000 years ago when the local volcano erupted.  A lot of the rich and famous Nicaraguans have built holiday homes on some of the islands.  Other islands are occupied by local birds like egrets, herons and cranes.  Somehow, one of the smaller islands had about half a dozen monkeys living on it.  Probably dumped there by the local boat drivers to create a tourist attraction.  They were really friendly and even posed for a few photos.

Granada is a tourist and ex-pat hot-spot so there's a large night life scene.  We went to a few clubs where I proved without a doubt that I can't salsa dance.  I'll have to stick to propping up the bar from now on.

GRANADA
ENJOYED THE TOWN VERY MUCH. SPENT FIVE DAYS IN FEBRUARY. WEATHER WAS GREAT. HOT, BUT NOT HUMID. NO RAIN. I FELT VERY SAFE WALKING AROUND THE TOWN..NIGHT AND DAY. MANY RESTAURANTS WITH VERY GOOD FOOD. THE PRICE OF ROOMS AND MEALS WERE VERY, VERY INEXPENSIVE. I WAS WITH A FRIEND WHO SPOKE SPANISH. THAT HELPED TREMENDOUSLY. I DON'T SPEAK IT, AND WOULD HAVE STRUGGLED WITH MOST TRANSACTION. THE LOCALS ARE RESERVED. THEY ARE NOT OUTGOING. EVERYONE KIND OF LEAVES YOU ALONE. I LIKED THAT. OTHER THAN EATING GOOD FOOD AND DRINKING GOOD BEER AND RUM, NOT MUCH ELSE TO DO. I WOULD RECOMMEND A SMALL HOTEL WITH A SMALL POOL TO HANG OUT DURING THE DAY WITH A GOOD BOOK. IT IS HOT. EVENINGS ARE PLEASANT AND WITH A GOOD MEAL AND COCKTAILS, IT IS SOON MIDNIGHT, AND THE DAY IS DONE. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY RETURN. I WOULD NOT SUGGEST RENTING A CAR FROM MANAGUA TO GRANADA. USE THE SAFEST PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION YOU CAN FIND. HOPE THIS HELPS. ADIOS AMIGO
