After a great "Short Day" yesterday making several new friends I was sad to move on from Burney Falls SP. At least I got to make some great memories and take with me a great new route name "Cash".
I finally was able to get out on the road before 8:00, and thank goodness too as the temperature got to 99* in Mount Shasta today. Another hot day in the mountains. To make it worse about half the drivers on Hwy. 89 between Burney and Mount Shasta were trying to see how close they could get to me without hitting me. I hadn't had many close calls at all during this trip until today. Not a fun day the bike, not by a long shot.
I did have some thoughts about Tour Cyclists verses PCT hikers. PCT hikers come in 2 varieties elvish and dwarfish in nature. Many are tall and slim and never seem to need to eat (Elves). Then there are to dwarves, short hairy and no matter how little they eat they still appear well fed. Tour cyclist, however, are more Hobbitish in nature. Surely I am an odd sort of hobbit as most never leave home. I have brought many of my comforts with me. I have brought my favorite chair for my roadside meals and rest bits. I have far too many changes of clothes. I'm so obsessed with cleanliness, that I brought a portable kitchen sink so I can wash my clothes every night, along with myself. I make sure I have my Starbucks coffee, toast, and oatmeal for breakfast before leaving for a day on the road. I never forget to have "midmorningizes" snack, before lunch and "foresupper" so that I have enough strength to make supper. Yep, I'm not a lonely Ranger like Aragon, he's far too cool. I'm more of a hobbit like Bilbo.

Don't forget "eleven-sies" - both a per-lunch and a pre-bedtime snack! Unless your talking hiker-biker midnight, which Brandon says is around 7:45pm. Keep up the good pedaling, Cash!

A great little snack before bed ... Lindt a touch of SEA SAIL Dark chocolate or mid day for a little extra energy.
