As you can see from the milage and feet I had a much easier day than previous days, and I should be able to make some better milage at least until I get to the next mountain pass (Mt. Lassen). It is very hot up here in the mountains in the 90's every day I have been riding. Today, however, I was sweating it out on a small climb when I noticed a small cloud that seem to be following me
. I kept an eye on it because this is not normal cloud behavior where I'm from. I could tell from the look of it it wasn't from around here and it had no good reason for hanging around and "dogging my tracks". Sure enough while I was taking a taking a scenic picture of Betty it pounced! It started with small drops mostly hitting me in the face and chest. I can take that I used to teach Karate! I wasn't going to even give it the satisfaction of getting in my rain gear. Then it upped the ante and the drops became cold and the size of coffee cups! OK I said "I can see your serious let's talk this over". No good, before I could even begin to stop and don my rain gear the hail hit me, and I buckled and headed for the nearest group of trees. Betty took it like a lady without any bruises, me on the other hand, I took it hard, drenched and shivering under a scraggly old pine tree. Bested by my first mountain storm! I'm pretty sure there will be a second round "Cloud"(yes you deserve a capital C), and next time who will be watching your back!
Distance: 45 miles

I started my day off with a soft bed, thank you Bob and "Miss" Kathy Bense! Breakfast was scrambled eggs, toast, bacon and coffee, and then early morning cruise on beautiful Lake Tahoe, again thanks to my wonderful "Trail Angels". Needless to say I got a late start today with the boat ride and all, but that's what it's all about right? I don't have to answer to anyone! I don't have to explain to anyone why I'm only covering so many miles! ........Perhaps I'm being a tad defensive? No the boat ride was just beautiful and really made me feel like I am on vacation.
