26th April to 30th April - Doncaster
Returning from Scotland we had a couple more days with my parent s in Ossett attending to crucial travelling things like washing and internet admin. We did go and see Andrea and Granville (Cesca's parents who had arrived in Doncaster on Wed) on Thursday afternnon with my sister Jo. Then on Friday night we caught up with our friend Dr Craig Sayers in a pub in Leeds for a drink. He was supposed to going up to Newcastle straight after work to spend the weekend with his girlfriend but fortunately for us he delayed setting off so he could fit in a swift pint. It was really good to see him (the first time in 5 yrs) and we quickly made plans to meet up again later in the summer. Cesca was especially pleased that the pub served her favourite wasabi peas with its beer as a snack! Back home we received a text from Winky asking us if we wanted to go for a drive with him and Jenny the next day. Putting it down to drunken tomfoolery we didn't think anything of it until a car horn beeped outside my parents the next afternoon. Not only had he remembered but he was on time and everything! We piled into his marvellous Mitsubishi Charisma Ellegance saying hi! to our fellow cruisers Jenny and Normy. First stop was out to watch Huw play cricket. Unfortunately, we got their too late as he had already been and gone recording his second consecutive duck for the season. Undeterred we carried on through Leeds to Kirstall Abbey or "Kirklees Castle" as Cesca insisted upon calling it. We went in the visitors centre and Cesca insisted that we try on old fashioned clothing. Normy looked suspiciously good cross dressing as a woman. Afterwards we wandered around the grounds before heading to the Original Oak pub in Headingley. We found it hadn't really changed much in the 5 years since we last had sat outside in the beer garden. That evening we once again sampled the delights of Ossett's nightlife with the crew. The next morning we were up early to drive to Cesca's Uncle John's house in Braithwell for a Dunstan family bbq. Her parents (Granville and Andrea) had arrived into the country earlier in the week for their annual UK trip so after 3 months she was really looking forward to seeing them. At the BBQ we caught up with all the rest of her extended family including her aunts, uncles, grandparents and cousins and second cousins! Lunch ended up being at 3pm which meant it was a tight squeeze both in time and stomach areas for us to get back to Wakefield for the combined Hart/Dunstan family curry. A good time was had by all and it was nice for Cesca and I to finally make one (we usually only see the pics). The next few days were spent in Doncaster at the house of one of another of Cesca's Aunts and Uncles. We hung out with Granville and Andrea visiting the local shopping malls. On the evenings we went out for some great meals including Chinese at 'Freds ' with family friends Janet and Pete Parkinson and Italian at 'BiBi's With the Rhoden family Cesca's Aunty Lyn, Uncle Graham and Cousins Harriet and Andrea'. My parents joined us at Bibi's and we all enjoyed the live soul music night and the copious bottles of wine that were drunk. Andrea had everyone dancing. On the Thursday the girls went shopping in Leeds ( I has gone back to my parents in Osset for the night. They picked me up and we went to Braithwell to say one last goodbye to Cesca's Grantparents and John ands Sue, before we packed our bags again and had an early night. We were due at East Midlands airport at 5am to meet Winky, Jenny, Huw & Camilla for our week on a canal boat in the south of France!
