American Airlines Flight 46

Flag of United States  , Indiana
Saturday, May 16, 2009

Our trip began by flying out of the new airport in Indianapolis, then on to O'Hare in Chicago.  It may seem like the long way to get to Chicago, but at least it beats fighting the Chicago traffic and the crowds at O'Hare.  There was absolutely nobody at the airport.  There were NO lines at the airport.  We parked our car at the Adam's Mark hotel for only $5 a day, rode the shuttle over, and literally walked our way through all the various counters without ever having to stand in any kind of a line at 3:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday.  Everything went as scheduled, and in fact, we landed at O'Hare before we took off from Indy :-)  what with Illinois being an hour behind Indiana in time.  That's what I call efficiency.  Then we had to wait a couple of hours to take off for London.

The only frustration was in trying to reach our grandchildren to say goodbye.  Since we couldn't use them in Europe without paying exorbitant fees, we didn't bring our cell phones along.  So, I resorted to pay phones.  But, alas, I tried in vain to say goodbye to the wee ones, but couldn't reach them in person.  Then boarded our packed 777 to become a sardine for the next 8 hours.  David and I were unlucky enough to get TV screens that kept flipping back and forth from color to black and white which did not enhance our viewing pleasure.  Had many movie possibilities to watch, but were not tempted with the sub-quality screen, so we just watched our flight path, read, and dozed.  All in all, not too bad when we considered what exciting thing awaited us at the end.  Oh, they did actually feed us "free" meals on the plane--supper at about 9:30 and breakfast about 2 a.m. according to our bodies.  And, the blankets and pillow were free, too, unlike the domestic flights.  This was American Airlines, by the way.  That's about it for the first day.
