So apologies for excluding this in my previous entry on Santorini - unfortunately we have had heaps of problems with the internet in Greece and wanted to catch both our folks on Skype before announcing anything on the blog!

Kerren proposed on Kamari Beach, Santorini.... and I said YES !! It was a complete surprise for me though apparently Kerren had been thinking about it for some time.....

It has been a bit of a whirlwind ever since so it has been great to be in Naxos a much quieter and laidback island where we can just slow down and take it easy.

We stayed the first two nights at Spiros apartments which were really nice and quite luxurious compared to what we have been staying in elsewhere. They had a little balcony covered in bougainvillea which was super pretty.

Yesterday we moved to a new place Kalergis Studios and although they are not as fancy as Sprios we both immediately felt more comfortable here and are enjoying the balcony overlooking the beach and proximity to the beach bars/cafes. The shower here is great too, its the first shower Ive had in Greece where I have been able to stand under the water and the recess has doors and a lip! Every other shower in Greece has been tiny, hand held with a shower curtain that spends more time wrapped around my legs than keeping the water from getting all over the bathroom.

Unfortunately I have caught the dreaded cold that Kerren had in Santorini so am feeling pretty yucky. Thankfully we are both happy to just relax and enjoy the surroundings here so I will be feeling better in no time.

We hired a car yesterday and found it pretty difficult to get an automatic, seems everyone here drives manual. Whilst I can drive a manual, Im not keen to be navigating on the wrong side of the road, from the wrong side of the car while concentrating on changing gears with my right hand!! Eventually we got a little white Hyundai Getz so we can explore some of the more remote areas of the island and check out some of the villages.

We drove straight out out to Agios Prokopios beach to the Dive Centre and chatted to the guy running it. Unfortunately its been pretty windy here and the conditions arent great for diving so Kerren may not get a dive while we are here.

Last night we walked to the Temple of Apollo or Naxos Portara which is an enormous marble doorway that was constructed around 530BC. It is incredible to be able to get so close to something so historic and beautiful. I find it hard to believe that it is basically unprotected aside from some shabby looking ropes. It is made from 4 blocks of marbe each weighing 20 tonnes. We stayed to watch the sun go down and took some gorgeous photos.

We continue to eat well though the food here doesnt seem to compare to that in Santorini for freshness or flavour... perhaps that will change when we go into some of the smaller villages.

So for now, I think I am off to the beach for a late breakfast and perhaps a spot of reading on a sun lounge.. its a tough life!
