Driving day 1. We started too late on the road.  Our intention is to make it across the southern plains to Memphis in two days.  We made about 350 miles in about 8 hours of driving.  Carol Ann listened to many podcasts of "This American Life", while Isobel watched some movies we bought at a dollar store (for 6 bucks each).  We made it to Amarillo, Texas, around 5 pm and ate our first meal of the day in a deserted Mexican restaurant.  Tasted good---price was right---hope we don't regret it.  Ended up in Shamrock, Texas and scrambled to find a hotel room as they were all selling out (?).  After a swim and a break, “we rambled up the road a bit” to the biggest Saturday night event in a small Texan town---a Rodeo!  Carol Ann really enjoyed the cow roping, girls barrel runs and kids chasing calves to retrieve a $5 ribbon placed on the tails.  Best of all, however, was the bull riding.  Only two riders made the 8 second in the time we watched, but it was good fun and a little unnerving to see the novice riders do their stuff.  Less polished than the TV rodeos, but better seeing the novices do their thing.

This is fun following your great adventure.....and I don't care what anyone says, y'all is a perfectly acceptable and useful word.
Did you go through Denton?

If I'd have known you were passing thru Amarillo, I'd have given you my mother-in-law's number. Although the Mexican food you ate was probably better than what you'd have gotten @ her house! hee-hee!! Thanks for including me in your great adventure.
