Where I stayed
Waking up in a dappled sunshine forest inspired us to serenade Isobel with the title song. Not sure she was amused. Anyway, we quickly had the French press coffee ready, and cooked sausage and eggs for breakfast. Breaking down camp was a little sad---it was such a lovely wooded place and I knew we were headed for some long drives and bargain hotel rooms. On the way out of the mountains, we explored the Jemez Pueblo. Jemez Village looks like a terrific little place to visit, but we passed it by (this time).
We drove to Albuquerque, New Mexico in good time and checked into our free hotel room (go Starwood!). Isobel enjoyed the air conditioning and TV while I took Chris to catch his train back to Flagstaff. The Amtrak station is located in an original building in the old town and has beautiful architecture. I would like to tell you about all the terrific sights and museums of Albuquerque, but we just couldn't't muster the energy. Isobel and I had dinner at a very popular but reasonably priced Italian place down the road from our hotel. The biggest joy of the night was taking long showers---we hadn’t had any in four days (since Vegas!) Bubbles...
