Abu Simbel twin temple was built by Ramses II, and is marvellous piece of engineering. Equally interesting is the story of relocation of this massive temple to the present location as the original place got under water due to construction of high dam.

Ticket cost : 95 EGP, inclusive of 15 EGP guide cost

Logistics and guides: Abu Simbel is 165 km and 2.5 hours away from Aswan, deep in the desert. A caravan of buses starts at 4:30 AM in the morning from Aswan. Tourists are gathered from their hotels/ cruises by their buses and then all start together from the unfinished obelisk location. You got to get up at 3 AM for being a part of this trip.

The guides should be fixed as a part of your package to the trip (make sure this happens otherwise you'd be stranded without a guide). Though you can get one common guide when you reach there as the guide cost is included in the ticket. The common guide thus hired will give you less information and hence I recommend the pre-hired guide.

Abu Simbel temple is worth all the pains of an early wake up and extensive travel. It’s a masterpiece of construction and also gives a panoramic view of Nile. You will get breakfast packets from your hotel/ cruise. Do tell them specially for a vegetarian preparation if you need it.
