We landed into Bali for our two week "holiday" to relax - and ensure we got the best tan for our return! However we chose to stay in Kuta, the largest tourist resort in Bali, and hence there was a lot of development. This is because Bali is a popular and "close" destination for Australians hence Kuta is their Costa del Sol! This meant the place was packed - and we mean packed - with bars, restaurants and hotels. Way too over-developed and too busy for our liking - we're glad we weren't here in high season!

To be honest our time in Kuta generally revolved around lots of sleep, eating the Indonesian dish Nasi Goreng (fried rice with veg, chicken satay, fried egg and prawn crackers) and wandering around!

Although Kuta has only a few main streets including Poppies 1 and 2 it was very easy to get lost! Kuta is situated on a 12km beach, but due to us being spoilt by beaches on our trip this wasn't our favourite beach by a long stretch, due to the rubbish around, but it did provide us lots of surfers to watch (although have to say we've seen better surfer waves!)...and a beautiful sunset. Due to the prevalance of surfers all the big band surfer brands were there including Quicksilver, Billabong - and even Marks and Spencer as well as other well known brands.

We soon decided to leave Kuta, so we booked to see a bit of Balinese culture in Ubud, another tourist resort called Sanur, and the paradise Gili islands between Bali and Lombok.
