To reach Langkawi we left Phi Phi Don for an 8 hour 3 boat trip.  This gave us an overview of the different islands between Phi Phi and Malaysia, including the beautiful Koh Mook and Koh Kradan - making new islands for our hit list in the future.  Immigration to leave Thailand consisted of the 10 of us taking a longtail boat to the island of Koh Lipe where the boat guy jumped out with our passports and got them stamped in a hut and we headed back out to our last boat - without us even leaving the boat! Next up, we were transferred to another boat - and when we say boat, we mean more speed boat!

Malaysian immigration was a bit more routine and on solid ground.  Before long, our taxi dropped us off at our hotel.

Langkawi is a massive island just off the west coast of Malaysia, and we stayed in a beach resort called Pantai Chenang.  Langkawi is a popular destination for Malaysians too, as it has been duty free since the 1980s, and is probably one of the cheapest places to drink in Malaysia.  There isn't much to say about the resort - while we were there it was very cloudy and in our opinion, not a patch on the paradise beaches of Phi Phi, so for us it felt a bit like going to a British seaside resort.  However the key draw for us to visit was the cable car ride to the northwest of the island.

The cable car is one of the largest and steepest cable cars in the world, spanning more than 1.4 miles, and reaching an altitude of 708 metres.  To say Karen was scared would be an understatement, and on the journey up, standing, and talking (in Neill's case) was definitely banned! Within the first 10 minutes of the ride we reached the first hill station, at just over 600 metres above sea level to the first view point. As you'll see from the photos, the views were simply stunning! After a few photos, we jumped back on the cable car to the second hill station, 708 metres above sea level.

As you'll see, the views were simply incredible as you could see pretty much the whole island of Langkawi from this point. We took several photos, walked across the suspension bridge (which was waaay to shaky for our liking!), and had a couple of burgers/hot dogs before starting our descent back down.

The following day we didn't get up to much, and decided that without our own hire car to explore the island, there was little point staying too much longer, so we decided to book ourselves on a bus the next day to Kuala Lumpur.
