We caught a couple of flights down from Hanoi to the largest Thai island - Phuket.  We decided to stay in the Patong beach area, as Sophie had stayed there when she visited 6 years ago.  Wow has this place changed, it is a lot more developed and has tons of McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger Kings, shopping malls and bars that are over 100 feet deep!!  Our first night was our 3rd year anniversary so we treated ourselves to a bottle of wine with our meal - first bottle since the UK - while watching some lounge bars.

The next couple of days were chilling days of wandering huge shopping malls (Neill was feeling the running bug hit again and needed some appropriate clothing), eating cheap food in the Thai food court, met Karen from the airport with our sign and showed Karen the sights.

We had a late start the next day and all took part in a lovely cooking class at Pum's restaurant.  We got to pick 2 dishes each to cook and then got to share them all between us all!  The dishes were so quick and easy to make - we got a recipe book included with the class so will be able to share our skills when we get back.

The following day we did a day trip to Khao Sok National Park which was a fun packed day full of activities.  Our first activity was elephant trekking, this was a hour and half trek on an elephant through the beautiful scenery of Khao Sok National Park.  At first it was so bumpy Sophie nearly fell off the elephant!!  They are such lovely and careful creatures, always checking where they were putting their feet.  During the day we also did some canoeing, where each canoe took two people plus a canoeist.  In Neill and Sophie's case there was no canoeist so Neill took the rein.  He did a tremendous job although we did get beached once or twice and ended up going backwards down stream at one point!  After the majority or what seemed like a long way Neill got a rest as a canoeist was able to join us and then did we see what true pro was like.  The trip ended with a zip line, which was a lot of fun.

The next day we caught a transfer to the island of Phi Phi Don for our search of a bit of paradise.
