I had arrived home after a heavy day drinking and tubing with Matt. Since the afternoon we had been drinking, partying and swinging off ridiculously high rope swings.
The time was about 3 o’clock in the morning and Matt had been on it the night before so he crashed out straight away. I was left, still feeling quite good about myself and disappointed that the night had finished fairly early for me.
As I’ve been traveling on my own for a while, i thought to myself that I didn’t really need Matt to be with me so I decide d that it was a good idea to go out on my own to the bars again.
I started walking down the long road towards the bar area, which was on an island about 20 minute walk away. A motorbike pulled up with 2 teenage boys on it, maybe around the same age as me. They offered me a lift for 10,000 KIP which is about 80p (but then again everything in Laos costs at least 10,000 KIP) and because I had barely begun the walk I hoped on. I must have also revealed my wallet location at this point because I paid them before they dropped me off. I was in the middle and then the other guy got on the back.
The journey went fine, and I thought nothing of it other than “hey, I’ve saved myself so much time here”. As the boys went to pull over this is when things got strange. The driver pulled the front brake in spasms which caused me and the guy behind me to viciously bump into each other. If I’m honest with you I thought it might have been a semi-gay attack at the time because the guy behind me was hitting me hard with his pelvis. Being disorientated and drunk I was like “What the f*ck is going on here?” and jumped off the bike. The drove away very quickly after that, but I didn’t think much of it other than I was mildly raped.
As i was walking towards the bar about 15 seconds later, I thought to myself how much money I had bought out with me. Earlier that evening I had withdrawn money, so I had around 300,000 KIP in my wallet (200,000 of which I left at home, just incase) so I knew i had something. I then realised that I didn’t have my wallet. Initially I thought, “what an idiot, I’ve left it at home” but then I thought about that strange rape incident. The way that the driver was able to create such a force, that I couldn’t feel my pockets being touched must have been then time I got mugged. Also, because it was so strange my instinct was to just get off the bike, giving me no chance to check my pockets or give them anything extra.
I knew it, straight away. I always have my wallet with me, and it wasn't there. I actually ran back to the spot, because I had heard that Laos people don’t care about cards just the money. I was hoping to find my wallet discarded somewhere around, but I couldn’t find it.

Items that I lost in my wallet:

  • Drivers licence

  • Natwest bank card

  • ANZ bank card

  • 2 x extra safe condoms

  • 2 x China mobile SIM cards

  • Australian SIM card

  • 1gb SD card - with images on it

  • 300,000 KIP or around 30

  • Various business cards - damn it

  • The wallet sold to me by George for 5
