Willit is a quaint little town that has the distinction of being known as a town with a strong focus on sustainability. It was really fun place. The weather was beautiful, the KOA wasn't crowded. The people there were very friendly and it was a great kid friendly place.
The Petting Zoo. It was there we met Ruby, she is a big pig who thinks she is a dog. I was really curious, I'd heard how personable pigs were but this was the first time I had really had a conversation with one. Instead of that loud oink sound Ruby made the most delightful song when she spoke. With her nose encased in mud and poop she would bury it into my hand and proceed to lick me. Then she would roll over to have her belly rubbed. Turns out Ruby was raised with three pit bulls and her owner lost her house so she had no where to take Ruby so the owners of the KOA took her in. Now they are going to get another pig so she can have company.
It is a fact, animals and I get along, we just do. I'm one of those people who folks will say, wow my ____ doesn't usually go to people like that. I admit, when I hear people say that inside I puff up like a rooster. The llama, okay I could handle the fact that every time I held my hand out it would recoil. It would take food from my hand then dash away. So I tried ignoring it and focusing just on the goats and pig, it didn't care. But then this guy comes up, the llama is all over him, nuzzling her head in his hair making big googly eyes at him. What?? I take a shower and come back the next day. Yes!! She is letting me closer to her, I'm making progress. I touch her and she doesn't run away, maybe I stunk. Gently I stroke her neck, she looks at me her head moving forward towards me then back. I'm watching fascinated, she looks like a snake getting ready to ......OH YUCK....OH GROSS...A fine spray of the stinkiest most awful smelling spit has now covered my entire face, hair and glasses. Oh I'm so not going to be your friend llama.

Fort Bragg The Beach. Willit is an hour a way from Ft. Bragg so we got in the truck and went to the ocean. It was cloudy and cool but oh so beautiful. There were hundreds of seagulls. I brought some bread so we fed the seagulls and Isa chased them because they wanted to play. We went all that way and only stayed about an hour, it was enough. We played with the seagulls, gave Perci and Barclay their place on the beach. Checked out the big whale skeleton they had and headed back to Willit.
The was much more we could have done at the campground and in Willit, I'm looking forward to going back and experiencing more another time. Next stop almost San Francisco.
