Where I stayed
Bullard State Park
Chimeranda is fixed and we are back heading down the coast. There is no one is coming to visit, we are on our own. I feel scared and exhilarated. We head to Bullard State Park in Bandon. The state park is quite empty, there are only a few people here, enough that we could meet friends and have some adventures.
The Good People. We meet a wonderful couple Ron and Brenda from Redding. Ron is always on the move which was a good thing because when my awning broke he was right there to help fix it. Ron and Ken Miura, who is also traveling with his family Sallie, Nikki, Andrew and Lauren, help me by fixing my awning. Thanks so much guys, it is still working great! Ron and Brenda are such dear people, we went over and visited their RV, met their dog. Visiting the old town of Brandon we met them again and hung out for a while. When they left it felt like our friends were leaving.
The same day we met Ron and Brenda in Old Town we also met the Miura family when they were down on the docks catching crabs. Isa was completely fascinated watching to pot get thrown out empty except for bait and brought in full of crabs. Every two minutes she would ask Andrew, would you bring it in now?? Andrew was so sweet, he brought us a live crab to eat. Isa asked him if he would please cook it first so he took it home to cook it and brought it back. What a wonderful treat that was.
Isabelle made a present for Andrew, a picture, a painted rock and her Pooh bear, (she really liked him) but sadly they left the next morning before we could give it to him.
The Good People Masquerading as Really Obnoxious People. After Brenda and Ron left the people who took their spot turned out to be the most challenging and I got to face one of my worst fears about traveling on the roads. I'm aware safety is an ongoing concern, especially now it's winter and there aren't so many people around. I've learned to park near camp hosts and other people or camp where some of those people turn out to be very loud, screaming obscenities on the top of their lungs, screaming about shooting people. They were so obnoxious that five families camping around us left. Of the five, four of us talked both the the couples who were partying and to the camp host. Nothing happened all night, they partied and screamed from 2pm thru 10:30. I got Isa in the house and we stayed there all evening without going out. The next morning I talked again with the camp hosts, then the ranger came by and I was assured by the ranger that it wouldn't happen again, and, if it did they would be gone if they made a peep that day.
At three o'clock it started all over again. I go to the camp host and he insists there is nothing to be done. I'm scared, I'm scared for our safety. I'm worried I've put us in danger. It is late, I don't want to pack up and leave, it isn't an easy process. I'm not feeling supported by his attitude and I don't believe it to be accurate. I knew where the manager of the park lived so I went to his house. Apologizing profusely I tell him the situation, he says he will check it out. The next thing I know three state police cars are there. The women drive the two men home, one policemen follows them hoping they switch drivers so he can arrest them! I think okay, we are safe and now I can sleep.
My first thought is sleep, yes, tonight it will be good. The park manager comes by and apologizes, in seven years this was only the second time they had a problem of this magnitude. He admitted they were really belligerent both to him and to the police. He says, " If they come back tonite, don't open your door call 911" WHAT??? Hello what? I'm thinking if they come back tonite we're goners! I decided there was really no way those people knew it was me who was asking for action. Still, I slept with one eye open and we were out of there the next day.
On our way out we stopped at the Game Park, Isa fell in love with the goats, I fell in love with Molly the opossum.
