After an awful night on the bus, I landed in Cochabamba lost and without any track from Andrés. It took me the whole morning to contact him and to find a place to stay. Chance made me meet a girl I had contact with on couch surfing through a mutual friend. She just recognized me in the street since she saw my picture on my profile! Funny story and she gave me a good contact to find my accommodation. On the afternoon, I met Andrés and a friend of his for a small city tour. In Cochabamba, there is a big statue of the Christ which is said to be bigger than the one in Rio. We took the "teleferico" up to the hill where it stands. It looks a lot like the Brazilian version. We also visited the area of Recoleta and the huge market where you can buy anything. For the second day, we decided to meet very early to go to the jungle, one hour from the city, in Villa Tunari. During the night, I could meet my couch surfing contact. It was nice to talk to a real Bolivian person and discovered that there is an other Bolivia far from the traditional clichés of the cholitas.
After a short night, I waited Andrés to take the minibus to Villa Tunari. When he finally arrived (damn columbian), we figured out that the road was closed because of the "tour" of Bolivia. It is true that we saw some cyclist the day before but could not imagine that they would prevent us from traveling. Any way, we decided to go a different way. We first stop in Tarata. We were surprised by the event that moved all the village. Some bad guys tried to burn the cathedral and took a cross from there, carried it to the main square before lighting it up. Quite funny! We wandered around then left for another town and another one... till reaching lost village of Catacora, getting deeper and deeper in teh country. From that point we went back to Cochabamba. This town is supposed to be the cultural capital of the country but lacking time I could not discovered all the events of the place.
