After staying one day in Cahuita, i moved on to Tortuguero national park. My sister and other people have told me it was a park not to miss. Thousands of green turtles, olive ridley turtles and leatherback turtles lay their eggs each year on its protected beaches. Next to the chance of seeing turtles, you have good opportunities here to see many other wildlife species, including toucans, different species of monkeys, poison dart frogs and if you're really lucky even a jaguar or a manatee. I travelled by boat over the canals from Puerto Limon to Tortuguero, which took me about 2,5 hours. It is a very scenic trip.
