Gerald checked in first and everything was going great until I gave them my passport. I was quickly told that because my return flight is not within 90 days of my arrival and I don't have a Visa I couldn't get on the plane. My first thought was, "What?" My second was, "If I just spent all that money on a ticket and quit my job to go and they don't let me on that plane I am going to do something crazy."
A woman quickly came over and explained that if they let me on the plane and they checked my paperwork in Italy I would be fined, the airline would be fined, and I would be sent back to the states
I was then peeved even more when they forced everyone on the plane with a rolling carry-on to check their bags. Considering United lost my brother's bag on his way into Texas and both my laptop and camera were in my bag this did not help my mood. Bags were adjusted and things worked out but I was still nervous about my bag not making it to Rome.
It was a nice feeling to finally get on the plane. After all of the planning and prepping the past few months it didn't feel real until I was seated in that little isle seat getting ready to take off. And then we were in the air and on our way.
